Northeast Missouri Pilot News

Submitted by LOQW, Inc. on behalf of the Northeast Missouri Pilot Communities of Moberly, Macon, and Kirksville Missouri.
Learning Opportunities/Quality Works, Inc. (LOQW), together with a strong group of core community partners, is coming together to increase opportunities, raise expectations, and breakdown barriers for youth and young adults in the Northeast Missouri communities of  Moberly, Macon, and Kirksville Missouri.  It has been a busy kick-off season to the project in this region.  The large cross community group of core partners has met to discuss project focus and broad goals for the program, keeping us focused on the Show Me Careers Guiding Principles while smaller targeted groups of partners have begun focusing on specific issues utilizing their expertise to meet the overall goals of the project.
Professionals from the local workforce development system have been working with us on business engagement tools and several core partners attended recent discussions with James Emmett and APSE-MO on creating business partnerships.  In addition, a series called “30 Second Trainings” is in development to provide clear, concise, and quick bits of training and information on career planning, disability employment issues, and resources for businesses.
LOQW Map Youth development has also been a major focus in our early efforts on this project.  Plans for summer youth programs sponsored by the local SB40 Boards are underway in each of the pilot communities focusing on career exploration and discovery, self-advocacy, leadership, and of course fun.  Each of these 3 summer programs will be unique to their own community, but all focusing on youth development and are scheduled daily through June and July.  LOQW will also be hosting a Youth Leadership Academy this summer in late June.  This multi-day event will be packed full of career planning and leadership activities for youth throughout Northeast Missouri.  The Youth Leadership Academy will be facilitated by Darla Wilkerson of the CSI Network.
The Northeast Missouri Show Me Careers pilot communities are also looking forward to several upcoming events scheduled to skill up our region including a business engagement roundtable discussion with Rob Hoffman of Employment Analytics, Hands on Learning opportunities with the Hyatt St Louis project, the Leadership Institute & DESE Training Institute, and Benefits Specialist training courses to increase capacity in this area throughout the region just to name a few.
